Welcome to beautiful Santa Carla! Enjoy sunny days on the beach and glorious nights full of fun along the boardwalk. 🏖️🎢 🎡 🎷
Never mind those ugly rumors that this town is the murder capital of the world. 🤫🪦😱
On the latest episode of VampCast, I recap and review teen vampire flick, The Lost Boys.
First things first: how to watch the movie! You can check it out for free with ads on YouTube (The Lost Boys). Annoyingly, it’s edited for content, and some edits are weird. For example, Grandpa’s “old fart” shelf in the fridge is cut out 🚫👴🏻💨
You may also be able to get it free on disc through your library. And you can always rent or buy it streaming to ensure that “old fart” is fully restored.
A couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to see it on the big screen a couple weeks ago at a historic theater in my city.

Folks in the audience were yelling out trivia, and one especially cool thing I learned was that the comic shop in Santa Cruz, the real beach where much of the movie was filmed, has a copy of the vampire comic book the Frog brothers give Sam. It was made especially for the movie and fans can check it out in person at the shop (which is actually located in town, not on the boardwalk).

During the movie, people were laughing, cheering, and yelling at the screen the whole time. It was a blast! If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend watching The Lost Boys in a theater packed with fellow fans.
In other news: on June 12, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is screening The Lost Boys as part of their “Free Movies on the Beach” event. The actor who played Alan Frog will be doing a meet-and-greet, and it looks like the event will have some cool merch for sale.
I only live a few hours away, and if I didn’t already have an obligation early the next morning, I’d absolutely go!

Speaking of things I’d love to go to, apparently The Lost Boys has been made into a musical currently on Broadway 🤯.
I hope it captures the camp, humor, and coolness of the movie! And that it makes it to the West Coast some day! This preview is pretty darn rad:
What do you think about The Lost Boys? A nostalgic favorite? Too kooky and campy? Mad at me for not naming David as the best character when I rated the movie on the podcast? Let me know! 😁

Until next episode,
